NESA Stories

Alex Donaghy

Newcastle Thunder Rugby Academy

“I decided to join NESA because of its partnership with Newcastle Thunder. The partnership provides me with lots of support and other opportunities through rugby. I would definitely recommend joining NESA. You have the chance to meet lots of amazing people and make great connections.”

Jamie Clark

Men’s Football Academy

“I’m thrilled to have been offered a contract at Blyth Spartans. This time last year I was preparing to play in the under-19s, now I have the opportunity to impress in the first team. I really enjoyed breaking through last season. My thanks and appreciation goes to Michael Nelson for trusting and believing in me. I’d also like to thank the tutors and coaches at Queen Alex for helping me in my development over the last few years.”

Megan Farrell & Grace Ayre

Woman’s Football Academy

Grace and Megan are both studied our Sport and Exercise Science course and were part of our NESA women’s football team.

They were also both selected to play for the English Colleges National team – check out what they both said about the opportunity!

Isaac Nokes

Newcastle Thunder Rugby Academy

Made his first professional debut for Newcastle Thunder.

Isaac started studying on our Rugby Excellence Programme in partnership with Newcastle Thunder back in 2018. After completing the programme, he further developed his knowledge of the industry by studying our Health & Fitness Diploma.

Isaac had the opportunity to play train with the first team during pre-season and after impressing coaches, he was then called up to make his first team debut against Sheffield Eagles. Here’s what Isaac said about the experience

“It was a really good feeling to receive the call to make my first team debut, I was very excited. It was a surreal experience and the build up was very special. We won so made the experience even more amazing.”
