HOW TO COMBINE COURSES

When choosing a combination of A Level subjects, it’s important to select those that you’re most likely to achieve a good grade in, as well as those you enjoy. It’s also a great idea to think long-term and consider which subjects are essential and useful for specific degree courses.

Follow these simple steps to figure out which A Levels could get you where you want to be.

YOUR PATH TO UNIVERSITY

A and AS Levels are one of the best routes to acceptance for your dream university degree. In most cases, Higher Education courses require at least two full A Levels or equivalent Level 3 qualification.

It works by converting your A and AS Level grades into UCAS points, and each Higher Education course has a minimum number of UCAS points required for entry.

Grade UCAS Points (A Level) UCAS Points (AS Level)
A* 56 n/a
A 48 20
B 40 16
C 32 12
D 24 10
E 16 6

Student stories

Max Ramage

Studied Psychology, Business & Maths

Queen Alex gave me great support with my maths. I’ve gone from Foundation course level to A level, and now degree level.

I’m now in a great position to take my degree and hopefully to progress into a career as a Software Engineer.

I had a very positive experience at Queen Alex. My lecturers were always supportive and were always available to answer any questions I had.

Welcoming back for a 2nd year

I’ve done well in my first year, but I’m determined to do better in Year 2 – I want four A*. I’ll have to work hard to get the grades I want, but I’m confident my lecturers will help me get them.

The lecturers at Queen Alex are very good. They gave me a huge amount of support in my AS level first year. Despite Covid, I was able to get about four months of the course in the classroom, which was great and has inspired me further.

I’m really looking forward to my second and final year of A levels – I can’t wait to get started.
