New appointed head at Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College

Cross-curricular expert Joanne Chadwick has been appointed the new head of Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College.

Joanne, 36, aims to continue the pursuit of educational excellence for school-leavers attending Queen Alexandra, one of England’s best performing sixth forms.

She has moved from Lancashire to take up the post and brings with her a wealth of further and higher education experience.
Sports enthusiast Joanne, an accredited level 2 England Netball coach, joins from Myerscough College in Bilsborrow, Preston, Lancashire.

Joanne spent 14 years at Myerscough College, with her last position being Assistant Head of Apprenticeships and Skills.
While her clear focus is to help students achieve their grades, she also aims to bring success by ensuring the college has a welcoming and inspiring learning environment.

Joanne, whose job title is Head of Sixth Form, Business and Sport, said: “There are a lot of good practices throughout the college that I would like to maintain.
“In addition, I hope to bring new strategies, new ideas and a new outlook on areas that can help drive us to becoming an outstanding college.
“My goals are to develop quality, ensure all learners have an excellent learning experience, thus value is added to each individual.
“The academic results are crucial, but it is essential to cater holistically for the learners and ensure our pedagogical approaches are appropriate.
“We are currently the highest performing college in the North East as a good provider, but my vision is to drive each of my teams to become outstanding in all they do.
“I like the passion, commitment and subject knowledge staff have and how they clearly have the learners at the centre of all they do, which aligns with my philosophy.”

Joanne holds Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Arts Sports Coaching qualifications, both gained at the University of Central Lancashire.

She is also a qualified Internal Quality Assurer, has Qualified Teacher Learning Status, Post Graduate Certificate in Education and she holds range of sports coaching and officiating badges.

Joanne has completed a Postgraduate Catholic Leadership programme, and she is currently sitting a UKCC Level 3 coaching course with England Netball.

Queen Alexandra is based within the grounds of Tyne Metropolitan College, and Joanne and her team work across both sites.

Mo Dixon, Principal of South Tyneside College and TyneMet College, said: “Joanne is a dedicated, talented and forward-looking educator.

“She has exactly the skills, experience and highly focused professionalism that I’m sure will continue to inspire Queen Alexandra’s students to success.

“Queen Alexandra has a proud record of achievement, and I have no hesitation in welcoming Joanne into this challenging but highly rewarding role.”
