Empty Dreams - An exhibition of Vaporwave Art at The Exchange

In September 2021, The Exchange presents the opening of Empty Dreams; an exhibition of Vaporwave Art by BTEC 540 Diploma in Art & Design Practice students from Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College.

Vaporwave emerged in the early 2010s, and is defined by its borrowing of 1980s and 1990s mood music and lounge music. Visually, it incorporates early internet imagery, late 1990s web design, glitch art and other 1990s visuals in its artwork and music videos.

Its surrounding subculture is often associated with a satirical take on consumer capitalism and pop culture, and tends to be characterized by a nostalgic and ironic engagement with the technology and advertising of previous decades.

"We hope you can join us for the opening of the exhibition on Thursday 23rd September at 7.30pm. There will also be a DJ set from $lick King, playing Vaporwave classics and other top tunes. We look forward to seeing you!"

Dr. Paul Harvey, Programme Leader HND Graphic Design
