Business professionals from across the North East came together to offer support to future business leaders from Queen Alexandra Sixth Form

As part of the first year of their business and professional studies course, BTEC business students at Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College were matched up with a mentor who works in the career they wish to pursue. This employer engagement session was organised as part of the Career Ready programme delivered by the college.

The Career Ready programme offers our learners enrichment experience which provides them with valuable employability skills and work experience opportunities, some of which will be paid internships.

Over the year students will take part in workshops, masterclasses and workplace visits designed to boost their confidence and develop the skills required in a business role.

Mentors are matched up based on the aspirations of the students and they will provide them with guidance on how to follow their footsteps into their chosen career path. Here are some testimonials from two Foundation Diploma Students involved in the morning.

Student, Alex Brown said:

It was great to meet my mentor Gavin Brittle who works for Barclays. We talked about his job role and first impressions for gaining employment in finance.

Yussef Gadema said:

I loved meeting my mentor and I am really excited to get started on the Career Ready Programme with Derek O'Moore at Tesco Bank. I am looking forward to starting my internship with Tesco Bank over the summer holidays.
