Queen Alex has given me the confidence to move forward and gain a business degree. I didn’t have the confidence to go straight to university being a mature student, but thanks to Queen Alex, I do now. As a mother of two who works – juggling home life and studying was very challenging. However, my tutors were so supportive and helped me prioritise, supporting me throughout. I would definitely recommend Queen Alex to any other mums out there who wants to study further – they even have an onsite nursery!
When I was 16, on career day, I put ‘Tattooist’ as one of my dream jobs but I didn’t pursue it. It wasn’t until later on in my mid-twenties that I thought about it again and decided to look further into it. Previously, I felt like nobody understood my take on modern art. It wasn’t until I met Paul Harvey and discussed about studying a Higher Education course that I felt like somebody understood. He was supportive of my style and helped me grow and develop my style further. The course taught me how to brand myself, learning about typography, how to research artists and how to build a portfolio of work. I use these skills now on a day-to-day basis. From designing merchandise, business cards, branding the business and building myself up as an artist. I’m so glad I found Paul and the course otherwise I may not have been where I am today – I owe a lot to him. He encouraged me which helped me grow in the direction I needed.
For me personally, staying at home to study higher education was a massive selling point. It’s allowed me to save a lot of money not having to pay for living costs and focus primarily on my studies. The course has opened a lot of progression and career opportunities. Classes are smaller, streamlined and more condensed so that students can benefit from a more personal experience and 1-2-1 support – the lecturers are also extremely helpful. I’ve enjoyed the unit topics so far, developing transferrable skills that will be great for my CV and help me become more employable – I will 100% be taking these skills away with me towards my future career.”
I studied BTEC Art & Design here at Queen Alex and I’m currently continuing my studies with the HND Graphics course. I’m loving the course so far and I am certain the skills I am developing will help me secure my dream job as a Graphic Designer. The modules are fun, interesting but still challenging. The atmosphere in the classroom is great, and with a smaller class size, this means that the tutor gets to know the students better on an individual basis and able to offer more one-to-one support.
