Languages at Queen Alexandra Sixth Form

English

Studying English is a highly rewarding experience, which stimulates students' imaginations and enhances their analytical skills. The English A levels offered at Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College all provide opportunities for students to immerse themselves in texts of different periods, genres and styles.

Whether exploring our rich canon of poetry, prose and drama on an English Literature course, or fine-tuning their linguistic comprehension on an English Language programme, students will attain a lifelong appreciation of their subject, as well as a valuable qualification. Students of English can go on to university to study English or a number of other humanities-based subjects. English studies can lead to many careers including teaching, journalism, law and accountancy.

Foreign Languages

Studying languages is fun, rewarding and challenging. It also sets you free to explore new countries with extra confidence. Students choosing language A levels will gain expertise in speaking, listening, reading and writing. The language programmes also allow students to learn about the current issues affecting life in Germany, Spain or France, examining contemporary culture alongside language.

Practice and experience are gained using authentic materials, for example, newspaper and magazine articles and radio and television programmes. As well as learning a new language, students gain more general communication skills, which are highly valued by employers. Studying languages also creates a number of Higher Education opportunities.
