New partnership with North Tyneside Sixth Form aims to get students Career Ready

A leading North East sixth form college has announced it is to work in partnership with a national charity to help young people prepare for the world of work.

Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College, based in Hawkeys Lane, North Shields, will team up with Career Ready, an organisation skilled in linking businesses with education to support youngsters for workplace roles.

Career Ready encourages employer involvement across the schools and colleges running its programmes, which forges closer ties with local businesses. The resulting professional networks that Career Ready students are able to take with them enhance their career opportunities.

Lee Patterson, Head of Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College, which is based in Hawkeys Lane, North Shields, said: “We understand the many challenges facing UK industry.

“Increased competition for resources and a lack of skills required to meet the demand has led to recruitment and retention issues.

“Like many companies, we also know how difficult it can be to raise awareness, access fresh talent and make time for training. That is why we are pleased to announce our partnership with Career Ready.”

Career Ready offers a structured programme of employer engagement that enables schools and colleges to meet their statutory duty for careers. Career Ready has worked with experts in education and business to develop high quality, employer-endorsed materials, which deliver a set of Skills for Career Success to help students compete with the best in the country.

The programme is broken down into four key areas: masterclasses, summer internships, mentoring and work place visits, seminars and workshops.

Lee added: “We want young people to not just have jobs, but have careers. We hope that we can achieve that by generosity of employer volunteers giving their time and knowledge, our experienced teaching staff and our dedicated students.”
