Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs at Grade A* to C above, including Maths and English Language.

Assessment
AS – 2 module tests of one and a half hours, one in January and one in the summer, together representing 50% of your overall A level grade

A2 – 2 module tests, one of an hour and a half in January, and one of 2 hours in the summer. Together representing 50% of the overall A level grade

Course content

If you are interested in finding out why people behave the way they do or how the brain works, then Psychology could be for you. Psychology is the scientific study of human behaviour which can be applied to lots of Higher Education courses and careers. You’ll look at how ideas and theories in each area of Psychology have developed, learn how to critically analyse evidence, and undertake some practical research. You will have the opportunity to visit local university psychology open days and attend sessions with guest speakers within college.

Study Units

AS – Memory, attachments, research methods, abnormality, stress and social influence.

A2 – relationships, aggression, sleep disorders, schizophrenia, the media and psychology, research methods

Progression and Careers

Higher Education – BSc in Psychology or related subjects such as Law, Criminology, Social Sciences, Social Work, Biological Sciences, Nursing, Education or Marketing.

Careers – Counselling, Prison Service, Human Resources, Market Research, Advertising, Health Sector or Psychologist.
