5 GCSEs Grade A* to C including Grade B in English Language and Grade C in English Literature and an enjoyment of reading.
Study Units
AS - Aspects of Narrative – how do Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy, Christina Rossetti and Mark Haddon tell their stories? Dramatic Genres - two coursework essays, one on Shakespeare’s "Antony and Cleopatra" and one on Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire".
A2 - Texts and Genres – elements of the Gothic and how it is explored in 'Macbeth', 'Dracula', 'Frankenstein', and 'Wuthering Heights'. Further and independent reading. Two essays for coursework, one based on a Critical Anthology, one comparative essay of your own choice, in consultation with your tutor.
Assessment
AS/A2 - 60% Exam and 40% coursework.

This course provides a real academic challenge and offers you the chance to analyse and interpret works by some of the nation’s best writers. Analysing texts sparks debate and helps you to develop thinking skills as you apply them to a wide variety of literature such as prose, poetry and drama. You will gain skills such as independent research and reading, group debate and presentations.
