This course provides a real academic challenge and offers you the chance to analyse and interpret works by some of the nation's best writers.

Analysing texts sparks debate and helps you to develop thinking skills as you apply them to a wide variety of literature in the form of prose, poetry and drama.

You will gain skills such as independent research and reading, group debate and presentations.

English Literature is an academic discipline which develops a wide range of skills.

When it comes to Higher Education, it lends itself well to most humanities or arts-based courses including, English, History, Geography, Media and Teaching Degrees.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs Grade A* to C including Grade B in English Language and Grade B in English Literature as well as an enjoyment of reading.

Study units

Component 1: Literary genres (comedy/tragedy).
Component 2: Texts and genres (crime/political writing).
Component 3: Coursework.

Assessment

80% Exam and 20% coursework.
